The charming town of Katikati is only small but it's rapidly gaining popularity with its open air art, murals, sculptures and festivals. Artists from all over the world are attracted to Katikati. Known as the Mural Town, Katikati is full of decorative walls and buildings portraying scenes of the rich history of the area. It's well worth a visit while staying at Seascape Lodge.
Only a few minutes away from the lodge you'll find one of New Zealand's award winning vineyards, Morton Estate. The estate was built by a local kiwifruit farmer, Morton Brown, at a time when New Zealand wine industry was only just starting out. Morton Estate's cellar door sales and wine tasting are available seven days a week. For more information, visit the Morton Estate Wines website.
A very particularly interesting place in the area of Seascape Lodge is the Katikati Bird Gardens. This beautiful park features a wide range of colourful birds that are anything but shy. It is a home for over 50 varieties of birds including colourful exotics, native Keas, the Canadian Emu and talking Cockatoos. Visitors can feed the birds that roam on the grounds as bird food is provided at reception.
